Over the course of several years we collaborated with projects at the Shree Pokhara Viewpoint School. This rural K-5 school was headed by a man named Matrika Baral, a powerhouse in promoting the best for his community.
The first project in 2014 involved finishing the roof on the existing school. That year seventeen women from all over the world joined me in trekking to Annapurna Base Camp. These women’s efforts fundraised to finish the roof which had previously been constructed of tin. Tin was too loud for instruction to be heard during the rainy season and did not shelter from the elements. This new roof finished the school nicely.
The second project over three years involved fundraising to supply book bags, notebooks, writing utensils and tailored school uniforms to 80+ students at the school. The cost of these supplies, essential to the school experience, could not be absorbed by the families at the time.
Since then I have connected others to share in the love of this amazing school and community. My former school, IGBIS in Malaysia, led by a good friend, has taken a school group to Pokhara two different years in support of this strong community.
